Obituary of Horace L. May
Mr. Horace L. May, 73 years old, of Fordsbush Road, died Friday at his home after a long illness. Mr. May was born January 29, 1934 in Ware, Massachusetts, a son of Horace and Vivian Boyce May. He graduated from Boys Trade School in Worcester, MA. before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent 3 years as a marksmanship instructor on the rifle range at Parris Island. After leaving the Marine Corps, Mr. May accepted a position with Elm Hill Farm in Brookfield, MA., eventually becoming its manager. He moved to Waite, Maine in 1978 where he owned and operated his own trucking business for 17 years. Mr. May also served as Forest Ranger Fire Warden in the township of Waite. He moved to Ft. Plain, NY where he assisted his daughter and son-in-law on their dairy farm, doing field work for 10 years.
Mr. May was a life-long member of the Brookfield, MA Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for 8 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Lorraine Farquharson. Mr. May is also survived by his son; Walter Geneva May of Hamden, Maine, his daughters; Susan Joseph Keith of Ft. Plain, NY and Janice Moholland of Rome, NY, his sister; Barbara James Wilson of Brookfield, MA, his brothers; Boyce Wanda May of Ware, MA and James May of NYC, his step-sister Martha James Taylor of Brookfield, MA, his aunt; Sally Powell of Lebanon, MA and his step-mother; Gene May of Brookfield, MA. Nieces nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to his parents Mr. May was predeceased by a brother Donald May and a sister Connie Gorak.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Mr. May will be cremated and burial of the cremated remains will be at the convenience of the family in Brookfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
