Obituary of Earl C. Folmsbee
Mr. Earl C. Folmsbee age 87, passed away at his beloved home on the Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield on Sunday, February 11, 2007. Born September 23, 1919 in Flat Creek, NY, he was the son of the late Maynard and Alma Abel Folmsbee. Mr. Folmsbee was a 1938 graduate of Gloversville High School and first employed as a machinist at General Electric Co. before enlisting in the Navy during WWII. Among other vessels, he was in submarine service aboard the USS Bugara, serving in the Philippines and the Asiatic-Pacific areas. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Earl returned to the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He continued his employment as a machinist for some years before purchasing the Johnstown Bowling Center in Johnstown which he operated until his retirement in 1975. He was the first proprietor elected to the Fulton County Bowling Hall of Fame.
An avid outdoorsman, Earl especially loved fishing and his outdoor parties with family and friends. He was also an accomplished self taught artist. His memberships include the Johnstown Moose Lodge, Gloversville Masonic Temple, VFW Post 2077, and the Capital District Bowling Proprietors Association.
He is survived by his wife Magdaline Tasheff Folmsbee of Mayfield whom he married October 12, 1946 and his sons, Jeffrey Sherry Folmsbee of Atlanta Georgia, and James Karen Folmsbee of Ballston Spa. He is also survived by two sisters; Dorothy Williams of Fayetteville, N.C. and Doris Peg Galpin of Meco, as well as two grandchildren; Kyle Folmsbee of Scottsdale, Arizona and Leah Folmsbee of Manhattan, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother; Guy Folmsbee and sisters; Irene Woltman, Ruth Healy and Alma Ruth Folmsbee.
There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service and urn burial at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
