Obituary of Joseph John Cali
Joseph John Cali, 78, Head Librarian at Antioch College in Ohio, passed away at his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. His last day was spent keeping the library open during a winter storm that closed the rest of the campus. This was typical of his dedication and his conviction of the library?s essential role in student learning.
A graduate of Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, New York. He received a Bachelor?s Degree from Western Reserve University in Ohio.
He was employed by Antioch College for fifty five years, at the time of his death in the capacity of Head Librarian/ Faculty. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954
He is revered by his colleagues and innumerable students, whom he guided in his tenure at Antioch. Evidence of this may be viewed on www.antioch-college.edu
Besides his contribution to education, his life was marked by strong family ties, interests in music and sports.
He was the son of Joseph Cali and Jennie Natoli Cali, both of whom predeceased him. Surviving are a sister, Joan Pecore and husband Victor of Westfield, New Jersey. Nephews are Joseph Pecore and wife Tomi, Victor Pecore and wife Patricia, John Pecore and wife Lucia. Nieces are Dr. Joanna Pecore, Marisa Pucci and husband Christopher. Grand Nieces who survive him are Alexis, Jenna, Christina, Erica Pecore and Cali Pucci. Additionally there are several cousins, aunts and an uncle.
Funeral services will be held on Monday February 26, 2007 at 10:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St., Amsterdam, NY. Interment will be in St. Michael?s Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday February 25, 2007 from 2:00 to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam or to Antioch College both c/o the funeral home. Antioch College will be holding a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
