Obituary of Robert Rounds
Robert ?Bob? Rounds, 83, of Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2007 with his wife and dear friends by his side. He was born in Amsterdam, New York on January 9, 1924 a son of the late John and Marjorie McChesney Rounds.
Robert was raised and attended schools in Fort Hunter, New York. He married the former Elaine Klingbeil on August 14, 1948 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. Bob and Elaine settled in Tribes Hill where he resided until the present time. He joined the U.S. Army during WWII and served our country in the 78th Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Bob worked in motor maintenance on the barge canal for the NYS Department of Transportation in Fonda, New York. He was a member of the Fultonville Masonic Lodge of which he was a past Master, a former member of the Shriners, former member of the Scottish Rites, a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post #701 in Amsterdam, a member of the Tribes Hill Fire Department, and a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.
Bob was a social individual who loved people. He very much enjoyed traveling the area, going out to eat, and visiting with everyone he knew. He especially loved to visit with the boys at the coffee shop where he spent countless mornings over the years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Leigh Rounds.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine Klingbeil Rounds of Tribes Hill, a nephew Keith Rounds of Whitesboro, and dear friends whom he loved like children, Brigid, Chuck and Janet, David and Cathy.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, New York 12010 with Rev. Gail Wholling, officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Members of the Fulton-Montgomery Masons will conduct a service at 4:30PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill. Memorial contributions in Bob?s memory may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, Tribes Hill Fire Department, or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
