Obituary of Karl B. Maaser

Karl B. Maaser, 89, formerly of Ft. Plain, entered into eternal peace on March 19, 2007 at the Palatine Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born on March 18, 1918 in Starkville, New York he was the son of the late Frank and Maryarit Mahr Maaser. He attended local schools, and was a lifelong area resident. Karl was employed by Hathaway Bakeries in Fonda, Pioneer Corn for over thirty years, Northup King Corn for five years, and Denalee Farms from 1960 until his retirement in 2003. Karl also served in the Unites States Army in 1941. On June 19, 1943 he was untied in marriage to Alberta Lucille Swartz at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. A firm believer in a strong family bond; he passed his legacy on to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was his passion and life, and the home that Karl and his wife made was open for everyone whom they loved. Karl was predeceased by his loving brothers and sisters, Anna Maaser, Marie McDonald, Charlotte Hayde, Henry and August Maaser, and Margaret Gribbon. His loving family includes, his wife of over 63 years Alberta L. Maaser of the Palatine Nursing Home, Palatine Bridge; three children, Dennis W. Maaser and his wife Cathy of Ft. Plain, Tana L. Young and her husband Douglas of Ft. Plain, and Charlotte Perry of Cherry Valley, NY; six grandchildren, Tammy Chittenden and her husband Robert of Ft. Plain, Jodi Anderson and her husband Brad of Colorado, Janine Horning and her husband Jason of Ft. Plain, Julie Crouse and her husband Gerry of Ft. Plain, Scott Young and his wife Lori of St. Johnsville, Randy Maaser and his wife Melanie of Ft. Plain; many great grandchildren, Kaila, Tiffani and Sharissa Hogan, Tyler and Summer Anderson, Kaleb and Noah Horning, Evan and Erin Crouse, Tyler and Alexis Maaser, all of Ft. Plain; three step- grandchildren, Robert and Matthew Chittenden of Georgia, and Hailey Anderson of Nebraska; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 3:00p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman, presiding. Interment will take place in the spring in the Ft. Plain Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 2 until 3. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, Ft. Plain or to the America Red Cross in care of the funeral home.
