Obituary of Florence C. McNeil

Florence C. McNeil, 95, of Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Saturday March 24, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 1, 1911 a daughter of Antonio and Cesira Mastriani Cimmino. She was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area and attended Amsterdam Schools. Mrs. McNeil worked for many years as a seamstress for Fownes Glove Co., Rose Snell Glove Co. and the Amsterdam Glove Company all in Amsterdam. She also worked for 5 years as a nurse?s aide in the maternity ward of St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. She retired in the 1980?s. Florence enjoyed being with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was her life. Besides cooking for her family Florence enjoyed crossword puzzles and either telling or hearing a good joke. She will be missed by all. Mrs. McNeil was a parishioner of St. Michael?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She married Kenneth M. McNeil on September 9, 1942 he passed away on March 4, 1987. Survivors include, two sons, Gary McNeil and Wayne McNeil Susan of Amsterdam. Five grandchildren, Kimberly Morin Richard, Lance McNeil Mary Beth, David McNeil, Christopher McNeil Mary and Patrick McNeil Melissa. Fourteen great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Cassandra, Sydney, Mallory, Cherise, Landon, Alessandra, Samantha, Tyler, Spencer, Ian, Andrew, Mathew and Brodie. One great-great grandchild, Madison Morin. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Florence was pre-deceased by two sons, David McNeil in 1944 and Ronald McNeil on March 6, 2006. She was also pre-deceased by a daughter-in-law Joan McNeil in 1999 and her sister, Mary Kerchner. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2007 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Anthony Gulley presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday prior to the funeral service from 9:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one?s choice.
