Obituary of Jean I. Mead
Jean Kimball Mead, 85, of Mead Road, passed away Monday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side.
Born July 9, 1921 in Hagaman, New York, she was the daughter of Chauncey and Irene Thompson Kimball. She was raised in Galway, NY and graduated from the Galway High School, after graduation Jean was employed at the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Jean along with her husband first farmed in Galway in 1943 then moved to the Town of Florida where they raised Registered Holsteins on the farm known as Floridale Farms.
Jean was active in community affairs, being a member of the Women?s Committee of Montgomery County Farm Bureau, Labora Club of Minaville, serving as president of these organizations at one time and was also a member of the Tribes Hill Iroquois Seniors and the Town Turtles.
She was a parishioner of St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member and past president of the Faithful Followers Class and also taught Sunday school for a number of years.
Jean loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and the four seasons, the ocean in Maine, cooking and playing the piano.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Connie and a brother Albert.
On September 6, 1941, she married James M. Mead.
Besides her husband she is survived by a son, Ronald Mead and his wife Barbara of the Town of Florida; four grandchildren, Brian Mead and his wife Laurie of Amsterdam, NY, Kara Lais of Saratoga Springs, Eric and his wife Sandy of the Town of Florida and Kris Lais of Amsterdam; three great grandchildren, Cole, Emily and Madison; sister-in-laws; brother-in-laws; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6th, at 11:00AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Califano officiating. Cremation will take place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 5th from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
