Obituary of Edward J. Lock
Mr. Edward J. Lock Jr; age 83 of Gloversville, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 13, 1923 in Cold Brook, NY Herkimer County, the son of the late Edward Sr. and Viola Schriner Lock. A 1940 graduate of Mayfield Central School, he served in the US Army for 44 months, first as an auto mechanic in the 77th Liberty Infantry Division. For twenty of those months he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, and received the Combat Infantryman?s Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal Guam-Phillipines-Okinawa, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan, the N.Y.S. Meritorious Service Medal and one Bronze Star.
Mr. Lock was employed at the former Stilwell Grocery Store in Gloversville for 16 years. He was also employed as a custodian at the Mayfield Elementary School for 22 years until his retirement.
Ed served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church and the 77th Infantry Division Association. He was known for his love of ?Country Living?.
On November 5, 1943 he married Mary Aesch at the North Main Street United Methodist Church. She survives, as well as three sons. His twin sons are William E. Lock Barbara of Horseheads and Robert C. Lock Chris of Beaver Creek, Ohio. His youngest son is Richard J. Lock of Washington, DC. Also surviving are his brother, Fay Lock Matilda of Gloversville; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and several cousins .
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10 am Saturday with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St; Gloversville, or to the Salvation Army, 10 Spring St., Gloversville, NY 12078, or to the charity of your choice.
