Obituary of John P. Thomson
Mr. John P. ?Scotty? Thomson, 86 years old of Crescent Avenue, died Thursday at St. Mary?s Hospital. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 7, 1920, a son of John P. and Christine Cliff Thomson. Scotty moved to Amsterdam in 1927 where he received his education and where he had since resided. He served with the U.S. Army during WW2. Scotty was employed by NYNEX retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Golf Course Road United Methodist Church and volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America and for St. Mary?s Hospital. Scotty bowled with the former Utility League serving as its President and Treasurer over the years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and loved spending time with his family on Cape Cod.
On October 25, 1947 he married the former Madeline Beach. She died April 17, 2004.
Scotty is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Edward LoBalbo of Amsterdam; his son James and his wife Marlene Thomson of Gloversville, and his granddaughter Andrea Thomson. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Thomson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Monday evening at 6:00 pm, April 9, 2007, at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Road, Amsterdam.
It was the request of the family that calling hours and interment in Hagaman Cemetery be at the convenience of his family.
