Obituary of B. Claudine Elsemiller

Claudine Elsemiller, 90, of Amsterdam, passed away early Sunday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on January 3, 1917 in Brooklyn New York, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Fannie Sing Elsemiller. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Claudine along with her sister, Madeline owned and operated the Proper Maide Glove Company on Yeoman Street in Amsterdam for many years. Claudine was an avid painter and artist. She was also an active member of the United Presbyterian Church. She will be missed by all who knew her. From her youth, Claudine was a self trained and successful painter and artist whose works are a part of collections in Schenectady, Long Island and Virginia. She has shown her water colors and oil paintings at the Schenectady Museum, the Laighton Gallery, the Saratoga County Arts Council, and the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery. One of her paintings, in memory of her sister, hangs in the choir room of the United Presbyterian Church. Most recently she was asked by the America Artists Professional League to show her works at the 75th Grand National Exhibition in New York City in 2003. Judged by her peers, she was given an award at this exhibition at the Salmagundi Club. Claudine was predeceased by her sister, Madeline Grace Elsemiller in May of 2000. She is survived by friends, her church family, and cousins Arlene Leonhardt of Homesdale, PA, Betty Schimkat of Tarpon Springs, FL, Cliff Schroeder of Richmond, VA, Ken Schwindt of Long Island, NY, William Sing of Amsterdam, NY, and Jane Swenson of Farmington, ME. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 10:30a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street, with the Rev. Roland ?Mac? McDonald presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
