Obituary of Russell D. Clough

Russell D. Clough, 85, of Northampton Road, passed away Monday evening at St. Peter?s Hospital in Albany with his loving family at his side. Born December 28, 1921 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Royal and Evelyn Mc Lachlain Clough. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1942. Russell was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II and the Korean War where he served as a Signalman First Class. He was first employed as a salesman for the former Bower?s Fine Furniture on Northampton Road for 23 years and later worked for the Sears & Roebuck Company for 17 years until retiring in 1987. Russell was a member of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church in Amsterdam and the church choir at one time; dedicated member and treasurer of the Amsterdam Lodge # 84 F&AM and served as Master in 1966; Patron, Grand Officer and member of the Art Wel-Otsquago Chapter # 208 Order of the Eastern Star; the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion and was a former member of the Mohawk Valley Choirs. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed playing golf every morning at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course and liked to travel. On January 25, 1946 he married the former Jean Bower. Besides his wife he is survived by, a son, David R. Mary Dobbin Clough of Amsterdam, three daughters, Paula Steven Tanikawa of Dove Canyon, CA, Patricia Henry McDermott of Cornelius, NC and Elizabeth John Pakeltis of Dana Point, CA; five grandchildren, Christian, Janel, Kyle, Megan and Micah; three great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Erin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Russell was predeceased by a grandson Joshua Clough and a brother Albert Clough. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam where the Office for the Burial of the Dead will be Read by the Rev. Christopher Smith Rector of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church. Burial will take place in Pine Grove cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. The John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 will meet at 5:30pm followed by a Masonic service that will be held at 6 pm and an Eastern Star Service at 6:30 at the funeral home Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Ann?s Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
