Obituary of Bernard Cebula

Bernard ?Bernie? Cebula, 64, of Green Acres Lane, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born in Amsterdam on May 29, 1942, he was the only child of Bernard and Mary Biernacki Cebula. He was a 1960 graduate of Wibur H. Lynch High School. During the Vietnam era, Bernie served his country as a SP5 with the US Army. He returned and began his career as an operating engineer. In 1972, he began working for the General Electric Company and retired in 2002 after spanning thirty years of service. A former trustee for the Village Of Hagaman, Bernie was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and a communicant of St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church. It was there that on June 19, 1965 he married the former Maria Iwanciw. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves a son, Michael D. and his wife Jennifer Cebula of Clifton Park, a daughter, Michelle D. and her husband Carlos Llera of Downingtown, Pa.; a granddaughter, Gabriela Llera; an uncle, Leo Bernaski as well as cousins. Bernie was anticipating the arrival of a grandson in August. Bernie will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, go camping and boating. He also loved to spend time with his canine pal Cindi. He kept his wonderful smile and sense of humor throughout his illness, which he faced with courage. Services are Saturday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass which will be offered at 9:30 am at the Church Of St. John The Baptist. Interment is in St. John?s Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Church Of St. John The Baptist, or the American Cancer Society both in care of the funeral home office.
