Obituary of Irene R. Lawton

Miss Irene R. Lawton, age 95 of Gloversville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. She had resided at Forest Hill Towers in Gloversville for many years until entering the health care facility four years ago. Miss Lawton was born on July 1, 1911 in the town of Mayfield, the daughter of the late John and Lillian Burgess Lawton. She worked for 34 years at Robison & Smith from 1930 to 1964. She then worked as a leather worker at Jones & Naudin until 1985. Irene attended the North Main Street United Methodist Church. She was known for her love of driving her car around the town. Survivors include her sister, Zennia ?Peg? Mason of Gloversville, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alpheais Lawton, Gordon Lawton and Willard Lawton; and by a sister, Amanda Travis. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 to 2 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 2 pm with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, 847 Co.
