Obituary of James H. Benson
Mr. James H. Benson, Jr., 78, of Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Mr. Benson was born in Gloversville on October 16, 1928, son of the late James H. and Ethel Brower Benson, Sr. He was educated in Mayfield schools. Jim was a well known area auctioneer and for many years operated an auction barn on the Riceville Road where he also dealt with antiques and yard sales. He had also been employed at the former Fulton County Silk Mill, Mohasco Industries and Coleco Industries at Patch Road. Lastly he worked in the maintenance department of Somerset Industries in Gloversville. Mr. Benson was an Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sleezer Benson, of Gloversville whom he married October 27, 1956. He is also survived by a daughter, Barbara Ward of Gloversville; two sons, Bruce Benson of Gloversville and Brian Benson of Fairfield, Connecticut; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mr. Benson was pre-deceased by two half-sisters and a half-brother.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville.
