Obituary of Norma C. Steelman
Norma Curran Steelman, 86, formerly of Yale Street passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF in Amsterdam, New York. She was born September 6, 1920, daughter of the late Thomas P. and Mable Whitlock Curran.
Norma was proud of her early employment at General Electric in Schenectady. She later worked for former NYS Governor Rockefeller in Albany as well as having other part time secretarial positions in Gloversville and Amsterdam. Her real passion, though, was for poetry of which she has written some of her own.
Norma married Arthur Steelman on June 18, 1971, he predeceased her in 1999. In their later years, Norma and Adam Golab became companions and Adam?s family became family to Norma. They enjoyed taking rides together and photographing different farms in the area.
Norma was a member of the International Society of Poets and a former member of the Junior Century Club. She enjoyed Mohawk Valley, traveling, especially her trips to Spain and Ireland, writing poetry and spending time with her family and many friends. She took a special interest in everybody around her and will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents and husband, Norma was predeceased by her brother Thomas Curran and his wife, Helen.
She leaves behind her three children, Gail Douglas Volean, Ned JoAnn Tomlinson, and Guy Mary Ann Tomlinson, her husband?s children, Andrea and Susan, six grandchildren, Kimberly Volean, Paige Molisani, Kristen Reilly, Jessica Tomlinson, Daniel Tomlinson and Alex Tomlinson, and four great-grandchildren, Hanna and Max Molisani and Emma and Owen Reilly.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with Rev. Cynthia Leonard, pastor, United Methodist Church in Hagaman officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home. Donations in Norma?s memory may be made to Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF, 4988 Route 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010, Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny?s Corners Road, Amsterdam, or Park Hill Adult Home, 52 Grove Street, Amsterdam. Special thanks go out to the staff at these facilities for the wonderful care they provided for Norma during her illness.
