Obituary of Sayde V. Barkauskas

Sadye V. Barkauskas, 85, of East Main Street, passed away Sunday morning peacefully at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born in Amsterdam where she resided her entire life, she was the only child of George and Ramalda Garuckas Vaitelis. Following her high school graduation she attended business school. Sadye was employed for forty years by the General Electric Company in Schenectady where she retired as office manager for Employee Relations. Sadye was a lifelong parishioner of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church and had been a member of the former American Lithuanian Club Auxiliary at one time. In 1967, she married Jonas John Barkauskas. Her beloved husband predeceased her on November 27, 2005. She is survived by cousins, and several dear friends including Thomas Poremba and his family. Services are Thursday at 8:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 9:30 am at St. Casimir?s Church. Interment is in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 3-6 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Sadye?s name to St. Casimir?s Memorial Fund, or the Foundation Of St. Mary?s Hospital, both in care of the funeral home office, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
