Obituary of Richard A. Thorne
Mr. Richard A. Thorne, age 84 of Gloversville, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
He was born September 1, 1922 in Gloversville, the son of the late Dorset and Margaret Thorne. A 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School, Dick served in the Army during World War II. Following the war he graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University.
He was employed as a caseworker for the Fulton County Department of Social Services for many years. He later worked as a crossing guard at Kingsboro School in Gloversville. He attended the Johnstown Reformed Church, and was a member of Concordia Singing Society and the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club, both in Gloversville.
Dick was married on August 28, 1993 to Lois J. White who survives. He is also survived by a stepson, Howard Sauve Amy of Amsterdam; three grandchildren, Brittni Sauve, Brandon Sauve and Brianna Sauve; one nephew and two nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Thorne, and his brother, Norman Thorne.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 am to 1 pm Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
