Obituary of Mary Jayne Vergona Allen

Mary Jayne Vergona Allen, 77, of Arnold Avenue, passed away Tuesday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital with her son and dear friends at her side. Born in Amsterdam on July 1, 1930, she was the only child of the late John B. and Helen D. Lucente Vergona. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary?s Institute and later the Mildred Elly Business School in Albany. Mary Jayne worked as a secretary for the former St. Mary?s Hospital School of Nursing and later, following its closing, she continued employment at the Carondelet Pavilion of the hospital until she retired in 1995. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Her loving family includes her son, John R. Allen, of Amsterdam and several cousins. On June 9, 2006, she lost her dear son, Christopher P. Allen. Services are Saturday at 10:15am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Fr. Dominic Isopo will be celebrant. Entombment will take place in the family mausoleum in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Montgomery Co. SPCA in care of the funeral home office.
