Obituary of Robert L. Horton

Mr. Robert L. Horton, Sr., 88, of Jockeyville Estates, went home to be with the Lord August 8, 2007. Mr. Horton was born July 15, 1919 in Broadalbin, son of the late Harry and Myrtle Gibson Horton. He was educated in Broadalbin schools. Mr. Horton had worked for the former Broadalbin Knitting Mill, Mohawk Carpets and the Watervliet Arsenal. Most of his working career had been spent at General Electric as a machinist, retiring in 1976 due to disability. A devoted Army Veteran of WWII, Mr. Horton served his country in the European Theatre and received numerous awards for his service including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His memberships include: Life Member of VFW Post 6433 of Waterloo, NY, the Blue Badge of Honor, Anzio Beach Head, DAV, Society of the 30th Infantry Division, MOPH and ?Outpost 5?. Bob loved the Bible and was a dedicated daily reader, he considered himself a true Christian. He was very grateful for the blessing of being so active and self-sufficient. Survivors include his wife Doris Hutton Horton of Gloversville whom he married October 26, 1942, his children: Nadena Richard White, Debra Doug Root both of Gloversville, Robert L. Horton Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL, and Terrence Robin Horton of McKinney, Texas He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Horton was pre-deceased by a son; Todd Forbes Horton in 1958 and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm Sunday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 pm. Burial will take place 2 pm Monday at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mt.
