Obituary of Joseph C. Shaffer
Joseph C. Shaffer, 60, of St. Hwy 67, Amsterdam died unexpectedly Monday evening at his home.
Born on March 26, 1947 in Germany he was the son of the late Joseph and Anne Schrum Shaffer. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College.
Joseph served proudly with the Unites States Marine Corps during Vietnam; until his honorable discharge. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid fan of NASCAR.
His loving family includes his wife, the former Linda Acela, whom he married on September 26, 1969; his three daughters, Melissa Delgado Shaffer of Amsterdam, Jodi Shaffer of Amsterdam, Melanie Dwyer and her husband Kevin of Esperance; one son, Stanley Shaffer and his companion, Amy Tennant, of Rome, NY; one sister, Anne Guglimelli and her husband Andrew of Amsterdam; one brother, Michael Shaffer of Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Joseph, Jasmine, Stanley, Colton, Alexis, Dylan, Chuyenne, Cameron, Rylie, Caseandra and Nikko; and nieces, nephews cousins, many friends and his fellow veterans.
He was predeceased by his son Joseph, Jr. and his two brothers, Robert and David Shaffer.
Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 12 noon on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
