Obituary of Betsy L. Dixon

Betsy L. Dixon, 60, of Herrick Road, passed away early Monday morning at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on March 19, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Pieter and Evelyn Belfance Lokenberg. In her early years, she was a member of the First Reformed Church, and sang in choir. A 1965 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, she went on to graduate from SUNY Albany in 1969. In 1986, Betsy earned her master?s degree from Union College in Schenectady. She was employed by General Electric, must recently as a Computer Scientist for General Electric Global Research Center in Niskayuna. In her leisure time, Betsy enjoyed antiquing and playing the piano. On January 10, 1970, she was united in marriage to Walter V. Dixon. In addition to her beloved husband, she leaves her sons: Walter V. Dixon III, and his wife Jennifer of Delanson, and Dana A. Dixon of Monrovia, Ca.; her grandchildren; Tristan and Alexandra Dixon; a sister; Katrina Harbour of Amsterdam; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will take place on Friday at 12 noon at the First Reformed Church, Arch Street, Amsterdam. The Rev. Charles Hesslink officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home office.
