Obituary of Andrew Macek

Andrew Macek Jr., 76, of Fultonville, NY passed away on Tuesday September 4, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Proctor, Vermont on September 12, 1930, the son of Andrew and Julia Zdut Macek Sr. Andrew graduated from Proctor High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon being discharged from service he attended and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. He moved to Fultonville, NY in 1955 and opened the Fultonville Esso Station later to be known as Macek?s Garage. Mr. Macek was a member of the VFW, the Fultonville Masonic Lodge and the Town of Glen Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Macek loved being around his friends and family, he enjoyed plowing snow in the winter and lawn mowing in the summer. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cherished grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Skinner Macek whom he married on July 31, 1954. He is also survived by five children, Peter Macek, Pamela Macek, Penny Macek her husband Robert Heffernan, Patty Macek and Polly Macek-Bennett her husband Lance Bennett; two grandchildren, Erin Macek and Ryan Macek and their mother Catherine Macek; three sisters, Helen Howe, Judy Kelley, and Marie Pomainville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Paul Macek and Perry Macek; two sisters, Julia Cawley and Suzanna Valach. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 8, 2007 at the Glen Reformed Church, County Highway 161, Fultonville, NY, Town of Glen at 11:00A.M with the Rev. Stacey Midge preisidng. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00A.M. at the Glen Reformed Church prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Maple Ave Cemetery, Fultonville, NY. The family request?s in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the Alzheimer?s Association of New York, 85 Watervliet Ave, Albany, NY 12206-2083.
