Obituary of Earl E. Keyser
Earl E. Keyser 88, of Arnold Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y. passed away on September 5, after 2 weeks at Edward L. Wilkinson, RHCF. Even though he had many illnesses he was able to be active until about 2 months ago. His biggest challenge was when he became legally blind in 2002 and had to give up his license after driving tractor trailer long hauls for 41 years.
Born in Amsterdam on December 10, 1918, he was the son of the late Frank and Leah Higgs Keyser. He was a US Army Veteran and served as a rifleman in the 85th Infantry during World War II throughout the Italian campaign and southern France and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1946 he was employed by Cramer Company and then worked for Boss Linco Trucking Company. He retired on March 1, 1981. He and his wife enjoyed camping at Alpine Lake.
Earl was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam and when health permitted sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Ostomy Club held in St. Mary?s Hospital and Post 55.
He leaves his wife, the former Elsa Tryanna Keyser he married on October 6, 1985. His family includes his son; Earl M. Keyser Sandra, Denver, North Carolina, Step sons; Frederick Wohlstein Karen Lexington, Kentucky and Ronald Wohlstein Donna, Charleston, Illinois, Three Sisters; Rosalie Lansing and Betty Tybor, Amsterdam, N.Y. and Cleo Andolina Salvatore Port Richey, Florida. Also five grandchildren; three great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the former Virginia Lathers Keyser, Ellen Sheward Wohlstein and a sister, Dorothy McGuigan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Trinity Evangelical Luthern Church, 40 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. William Hodgetts Jr. officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, September 10, 2007 from 4 to 7 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam with full Military Honors. The family request?s in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Earl?s memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Northeaster Association of the Blind NABA, 301 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12206.
