Obituary of Marion N. Keller

Marion Keller, a lifelong Gloversville resident, died Friday, September 7th, at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. She was born March 2, 1919, the daughter of Carrie and Howard Naish. She served as a communications specialist with the Women's Army Corps in World War II from March 17, 1943 to August 6, 1943. She married Otto Moore on June 24, 1943, who passed during the War. She later married Clarence Keller, who died in 1957. Mrs. Keller was employed at Mohican Market, Upstate Telephone, General Dry Battery, F. D. Peter's and finally at Mohawk Furniture until her retirement in 1983. Mrs. Keller taught swimming and served as a lifeguard at Littauer Pool; she led Girl Scout troops 1, 11 and 12 for 50 years. She served as chaplain at American Legion Post 1076 in Northville and also taught Sunday School at Fremont Street United Methodist Church. Mre. Keller was a lifelong outdoorswoman who enjoyed hiking, camping, and traveling in the Adirondacks. She remained active for many years as an advocate for Senior Citizens in Fulton County. She was honored by the state legislature as "Senior Citizen of the Year" in 1990 and also won a number of medals for athletic contests at the Senior Empire State Games. She served on the board of the Senior Council and served as President for some time. She is survived by her three children, Thomas Moore, Linda Miller and Michael Keller, and their spouses, Cora Moore, Herman Miller and Gail Keller; all of Fulton County. She also is survived by sisters Charlotte Lawton, Cecilia Perham and Phyllis Hitchcock and a brother, Howard Naish, Jr. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Naomi Smith and Jessie Galligan. Mrs. Marion Keller has several grandchildren: Thomas, Michael and Jeffry Moore; Marc and Craig Miller; and Aaron and Jeremy Keller; and a number of great-grandchildren: Lillian Gray, Justin and Megan Moore, Michael Eckerson, Kayla Moore, Alexie and Tyler Moore, Ethan Miller and Isabella Miller. Mrs. Keller is also survived by a number of devoted nieces and nephews: Patty Almeter and her husband Gary, Raymond Smith and James Smith and his wife Carol; as well as grand-niece Marrissa Almeter and grand-nephew Bryan Almeter. The family will receive friends at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home on Tuesday, September llth, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 11:00 on Wednesday at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
