Obituary of Lawrence C. Trombley
Predeceased by loving wife of 45 years, Lucy Smith Trombley. Survived by daughter, Janet Trombley Ayer Rochester, NY, son Bruce Trombley Rochester, NY, grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia Ayer, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Lawrence was a 1933 graduate of Gloversville High School, Gloversville Business School, and the American Institute of Banking. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII where he served in the South Pacific Theatre. As 1st Class Chief Petty Officer he was awarded the American Theatre ? Asiatic Pacific Theatre Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. A 68 year member of the YMCA, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for 30 years. He also served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the YWCA. Lawrence was very civic minded and happily volunteered his time as a Member of the Board of Directors for many organizations including the Fulton County Economic Development Corporation, Fulton County Chamber of Commerce, Sir William Johnson Council Boy Scouts of America, Gloversville Area United Way, Community Chest, Gloversville Free Library, and the Gloversville First Presbyterian Church 4th generation lifetime member, Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees, 34 year ordained Elder as a member of the Session. He was also a member of the Eccentric Club, the Concordia Club, Gloversville Council of Churches and Fulton County Young Men?s Republican Club. Lawrence received the prestigious Fulton County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award for Humanitarian Services and Community Volunteerism in 1985.
Lawrence started his career at the City National Bank and Trust Company where he became the Vice President of the Schenectady Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He later joined the Wessels Insurance Agency where he became a partner then later a Principal and Owner of the Frank and Trombley Insurance Agency for 40 years before retiring. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and treasured the summers they spent at their camp on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir. He will be greatly missed by his family.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 13th at the First Presbyterian Church, 16 W. Fulton Street, Gloversville. Urn burial for Lawrence with military honors, and his wife Lucy, will follow at Ferndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Gloversville Free Library 58 E. Fulton St. Gloversville, NY 12078 or the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
