Obituary of Claudette C. Sylvester
Claudette C. Sylvester, age 83, formerly of Gloversville, died Sunday morning, January 8, 2017 at St.Johnsville Rehab Center & Nursing Home. She had resided at Pineview Commons in Johnstown for the past two years.
She was born February 22, 1933 in Presque Isle, Maine, the daughter of Jasper and Gertrude Wheaton Coffin. She was employed as a school teacher for a total of 30 years, several years in Bangor, Maine and most of her career at Gloversville High School. She was also a substitute teacher in the local area.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. As well as camping, traveling, reading, and dancing. She was a member of the Red Hats Society in Florida where she spent her winters and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Johnstown.
Claudette is survived by two sons: Mark C. Sylvester (Kim) of Gloversville and David L. Sylvester (Joe Costello) of New York City; a brother, Ronald Coffin (Sheila); three grandchildren: Jennifer Sylvester, Jocelyn Sylvester and Joseph Dorman (Erica); a great-granddaughter, Aurora Dorman; three nieces, four nephews and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Sylvester in 2001, and by her parents.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday, January 17 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville where a Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
