Obituary of Leon H. Thompson

Mr. Leon H. Thompson, age 84 of Gloversville, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a short illness. He was born June 3, 1923 in Gloversville, the son of the late John and Effie Burdow Thompson. A 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School, Leon also attended the former Gloversville Business School. He served in the US Army under General Patton during World War II. Mr. Thompson was employed as an accountant for about 48 years by General Telephone Company of Upstate New York. He was an active member of Foothills United Methodist Church, where he was responsible for the public address system for many years. He was Berkshire Fire Department Secretary for many years, and was Treasurer of the Berkshire Fire District for 35 years until his recent illness. Leon was married on August 7, 1948 to Edith Murdock who survives. He is also survived by his son, Glen E. Thompson Marguerite and two grandsons, Matthew and Nathan Thompson, all of Manlius, NY. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 pm Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 12 pm with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
