Just watched an interview with this magnificent man on YouTube. What a man , he went through some very tough times during his army day's. I would have loved to have known this hero and shake his hand . I am from Ireland and just stumbled across this man's interview by accident. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

What a story - my grandfather was in Iwo Jima - the younger generation has no idea what these men went through to help the USA. THANK YOU SIR - I sincerely hope you are resting in peace and am glad you have a wonderful family to remember you. We cant give enough thanks for what you did ... RIP

Like others, I also stumbled upon his interview with the local library back in 2005. It has been my life’s honor to meet and get to know men like him in my lifetime. Almost none left. They surely earned the moniker “the greatest generation “. I can think of no other generation that grew up with nothing during the Great Depression , served their country in every hellhole there was in WWII, (and often Korea AND Vietnam for a few) and went on to build homes, lives and businesses for themselves and their families. Gabe is a perfect example. Built successful businesses that continue to provide for his family to this day, 60+ years later. I hope to get to shake your hand on the other side, sir. SEMPER FIDELIS

I just watched it, as well. I am cautious about allowing hyperbole into my speech, but this man's experience was absolutely incredible. His bravery, instinct and humanity was incredible and, I suspect, rarely matched. He was undoubtedly an inspiration to his family and those around him for all of his 83 years. I'm seconding Joel Weingarten's summary... Gabe was a true American hero.

I watched the same 2 hour and 45 minute interview and was amazed with Gabriel J. Vertucci's memory. Incredible what he went through. He told his story in simple vivid explanations that let you see what he saw and endured. Not many men like him back then and much more rare today.

To you all.
We were very sorry that we were out of town at the time of Gabe's death.
Please know that Skip and I shared many thoughts and memories of you all.
So many years of knowing him - a person so very much like Skip's dad, Charlie and the true fun that they would have on a "ditch"
His work ethic that he taught you all and the love of family.
Especially to our "boys" Rick and Jeff" we send you our thoughts and hugs. And to Nancy from Skip.
Talk of him lots, that will validate his long meaningful life.

Dear Kim, Michael, and family,
I am sorry I have never had the priviledge of meeting your father, although I feel that I gained greater insight and a deep appreciation about how incredibly special he was through your eyes and by sharing stories about him throughout the years. He demonstrated great courage throughout his life which also was exhibited throughout his illness, and he serves as an inspiration and role model for all of us. I am holding you and your family close in my thoughts and prayers. With love, Erica
