Obituary of Harold E. Mead

Harold E. Mead, 81, of Fairview Place, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday evening at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care facility in Amsterdam following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 8, 1926 a son of Harold R. and Anna Montoni Mead. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools. Mr. Mead graduated from the former Amsterdam Technical School. He worked for many years at the West End Paving Co. in Amsterdam before retiring in 1988. He was of the Protestant Faith and was a former member of the Amsterdam Lodge #84 F & AM. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the former Bergen Post #39 in Amsterdam. He married Ethel Centerbar Mead on December 27, 1954. In addition to his wife survivor?s include one sister, Dorothy Litchfield of Vail Mills, NY. Sisters-in-law, Esther Ilnicki, Eloise Gugiemelli, Virginia Culpepper, Elsie Muller, Emma Lyons and Eva Morning Star Stone. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Mead and Douglas Mead and a sister, Margaret Mead. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 6, 2007 at 11:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Roland ?Mac? McDonald presiding. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:30A.M. at the funeral home.
