Obituary of Colombo DiGiorgi

Colombo DiGiorgi, 89, of Fonda, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with his loving family by his side. Born on August 28, 1927 in Sezze, Italy, he was an only child of the late Guiseppe and Maria DiRaimo DiGiorgi. After moving to the United States, Colombo and his family resided in Fonda, where he graduated from Fonda High School Class of 1945. He later went on to receive his Business Degree from Central City Business School in Syracuse. Colombo was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving his country from 1946-1947. Colombo worked up until his retirement, for over 37 years, at General Electric. Colombo was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #79 in Canajoharie, a lifetime member of the NRA and the General Electric Quarter Century Club. He was previously a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club and the Glen-Mohawk Seniors. Colombo was previously a Vol. Firemen for the Fonda Fire Dept. where he was Captain of the Fire Police. Colombo was also previously on the Village of Fonda Board as their Trustee from April 1980 until March 1992. He was an avid outdoors man; he loved photography, hunting and travel, often times going to Wyoming, Colorado and his home country, Italy. On April 29, 1950, Colombo married his loving wife, Georgia Stanton; it was a loving union that lasted 67 years. Besides his wife, Georgia, survivors include his daughters, JoAnn Downing (Jon) and Judy Minch (Ted); grandchildren, Joshua Downing (Jennifer) and Brooke Melious (Brian); great grandchildren, Jenna Downing and Brady Melious; many cousins also survive. Funeral services for Colombo will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 12 noon, where the Unity Masonic Lodge will be doing their service, at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be held following the service at Evergreen cemetery, Fonda.
