Obituary of Louis J. Noto

Louis J. Noto, 94, of Amsterdam NY, has gone to his eternal rest on Thursday January 12th, 2017. Born on May 17th, 1922 in Waverly PA, he was the son of the late Rose Politi and Severio Noto. Louis attended local schools. In 1939 he bravely enlisted in the National Guard, 27th Infantry Division, Company G, and courageously served our country in the Pacific Tour during WWII. He was awarded several medals for his service including a Purple Heart Medal. Louis committed many years to the Greater Amsterdam School District earning his retirement in 1987. Louis was a former president of the Amsterdam School District's Custodian Union, and was a former co-owner of New Amsterdam Catering which was once located on Reid Street in Amsterdam before closing their doors in 1990. Louis married the love of his life Mary C. Messineo on February 10th, 1945. He was a proud member of Knights of Columbus Counsel 209. Louis was a past grand knight; he was a member of Monsignor William Brown 4th Degree Knight. He also served on the Capital District Conference as a past district deputy. He was a former member of St. Michael's Holy Name Society and a former member of St. Agnello Club. In 2014 Louis was inducted into the Amsterdam Mohawks Hall of Fame for his 21 years of dedicated service as coach to the city's little league baseball teams. He served as president and commissioner of the Wee Men Majors League in earlier years of his life. Louis was well natured easy going man who got along with everyone. He was a devoted family man, a genuine friend, and an incredible role model for many. He enjoyed gardening particularly vegetables, and liked to make his own home made wine. He loved woodworking and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Through his commitment to the community Louis inspired and touched many lives. He will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Louis is survived by his beloved wife Mary Noto; his sons Robert (Cindy) Noto and Louis T. (Linda) Noto; his grandchildren, Tamara (Bill) Courtney, Jennifer (Fred Dellasandro) Fritz, Lisa Noto, Elizabeth Noto, and Robert R. Noto; his niece Lori Noto; and his sister in-law Gloria Noto. Louis is predeceased by his parents Rose and Severio Noto; his sister Maria Noto; and his brother Rocco Noto. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 14th, 2017 at 11:15am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. Lawrence Decker as Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow and take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, 39 E Main Street, Fort Johnson, NY 12070. The family will receive visitors from 9am to 11am prior to the service at St. Mary's Chapel. In Lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Amsterdam High School football team.
