Obituary of John C. Mangiagli
Mr. John C. Mangiagli, Sr; age 86, of Gloversville, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness.
He was born June 18, 1921 in Johnstown, the son of the late Filippo and Grace Miranda Mangiagli. Following his graduation from Barker Central High School in 1942, he served in the US Navy during World War II for four years until 1946. When he returned home he worked at the former Garlock?s Garage in Gloversville. John retired in 1984 after many years as a machinist at Fultonville Machine and Tool Company, Fultonville.
Mr. Mangiagli was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, the Fulton County Sheriff?s Association, and Concordia Club along with its Rifle Club. He had bowled in leagues in the past, and was also a little league baseball manager many years ago.
John was married to Mary Pezzella on July 19, 1947 who survives. Survivors also include a son, John C. Mangiagli, Jr. Terry of Painted Post, NY; a sister, Mary Caraco of Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons, Kyle Mangiagli and Patrick Mangiagli; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Mangiagli.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:15 am Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 149 S. Main St; Gloversville, NY 12078.
