Obituary of Peter Hallam

Peter Hallam 79, formerly of Hazelett Lane, Tribes Hill, passed away Wednesday morning at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home. Born in Leeds, England on July 18, 1928, he was the son of Harry and Kitty A. Guest Hallam. Peter served as a British naval Cadet during World War II and came to the United States in 1948 to live with his sister in Amsterdam. He was first employed by the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company and later as a field engineer for Dodge, Chamberlin, Luzine and Webber Architects in Troy before he retired. He was responsible for the building of many local hospitals and schools. During his early days, Peter apprenticed as a cabinet maker and later, was a talented wood worker. He was an avid local historian and collected many Indian artifacts and model trains. He was of the Anglican faith. His wife, the former Julia Knapp predeceased him on June 16, 2004. They were married on June 30, 1951. His loving family includes his children; Cynthia Robert Lennon of Amsterdam, Peter Bernadette Hallam of Slingerlands, and Christopher Claudia Hallam of Germany; a brother; Harry Poppy Hallam of Tribes Hill; a sister; Joyce Bierman of Johnstown; a special grandson; Keaton Hallam ; a dear niece Linda John Callahan and her family of Gloversville, a cousin, Mavis Darby of Sheffield, England as wells as other nieces and nephews. Peter?s family would like to thank the caring staff at Mt. Loretto for the care and concern shown to him. A graveside service will take place Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Pinegrove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. The Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating. Relatives and friends are invited. There are no calling hours and contributions may be made in his name to the Foundation Of St. Mary?s Hospital or the Montgomery County Historical Society both in care of the funeral home office.
