Obituary of Donald A. Sprung

Donald A. Sprung, 79, passed away at his home in Gloversville on Saturday, November 17, 2007. He was born in Gloversville on August 8, 1928, the son of the late Calvin and Elizabeth Zilka Sprung. Mr. Sprung was employed by the Gloversville Fire Department in 1951 until his retirement of thirty three years of service in 1984. He was a former member of the Gloversville Firefighter Association and the Association of Retired Gloversville Police and Firefighters. He was also a member of the North Main United Methodist Church in Gloversville. He married his wife, the former Jennie A. Clark on July 31, 1948. She passed away before him on April 24, 1991. Survivors include two sons, David A. Sprung, Daniel A. Sprung and his wife Kelly, both of Gloversville; three daughters, Jo Ann Samrov and her husband Richard, Donna A. Sprung of Johnstown and Janice A. Baumgaertel and her husband Robert Sr. of Gloversville; a sister, Beatrice Topliff and her husband, Franklin; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a daughter Janet A. Sprung and his sisters Bertha McLain and Vivian DeVoe. Calling hours will be Tuesday November 20, from 4 to 7 PM at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 AM from Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Hamm presiding. Burial follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville where Rev. Christopher Hamm will recite the Committal Prayers. Memorial Donations may be made to the North Main St. United Methodist Church Choir, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice in his memory.
