Obituary of Virginia Kretser
Virginia Kretser, 81, of Flanders Road, formerly of Palatine Bridge, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 17, 2007 at E. L. Wilkinson, RHCF in Amsterdam. She was born in York, Nebraska on January 16, 1926, a daughter of the late Forrest and Mildred Hyde Marble.
Virginia was raised and attended school in the York, Nebraska area. She was one of the last descendents of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her ancestors were Pioneers of that era who traveled west, losing several along the way, eventually settling in Nebraska. Virginia relocated to the Canajoharie area and finished her schooling in that area. She attended the Steuben School Shop Center in Herkimer and was among the first class to finish the nursing program.
Virginia married John W. Kretser in New Mexico on January 24, 1944, settling with him to raise their family in the Canajoharie area. She worked as a nurse in various hospitals and nursing homes, most recently at Arkell Hall. She was a member and past President of the L.C.W. now known as the Women?s Evangelical Lutheran Church Association, as well as being in the church choir and a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed reading, dancing, spending time with her family and music, especially Italian music.
Her loving family includes two sons, John W. Kretser of Colorado Springs, CO and Andrew Kretser of Johnstown, three daughters, Janis Kilpatrick of Canajoharie, Emmaline Bringley of Boca Raton and Lucille Wells of Sprakers. Nine grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Kretser, Sr. in 1999, a brother, Victor Marble and a sister, Vivian Catamec.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 9:00AM on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery in Canajoharie.
