Obituary of Leon S. Rostowski

Leon S. Rostowski of Cranes Hollow Road passed away peacefully Thursday morning at his home with his wife by his side. Born in Amsterdam on August 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Bronislaw and Ludwika Fura Rostowski and lived here his entire life. Leon attended the Amsterdam Technical High School. He served in the US Navy from 1944 through 1946 aboard the USS Tucson, participating in the final assault on the Japanese Empire, and later as part of the Naval convoy during the signing of the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945. After Naval service, Leon was employed for several years at Hi-Grade Welding in Amsterdam, and served as a charter member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department. He was employed for thirty years with Local 5 and 7 Plumbers and Steamfitters out of Latham, NY. Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time at home with his grandchildren, working on various projects in his welding shop and raising a herd of Black Angus cattle. Leon was a parishioner of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He married the former Rose Marie Clancey on Sept. 14th, 1947 and recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. In addition to his adored wife Rose, he is survived by his loving daughters Linda Cady and her husband Robert, Tammy Brower and her husband Vincent all of Amsterdam; grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Cady, and Brittany, Adam and Lukas Brower and several nieces and nephews. His sisters, Bernice Czerw and Sadie Ozimeck as well as his brother Felix Rostowski all predeceased him. Services are Tuesday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital or Community Hospice Of Amsterdam both in care of the funeral home office.
