Happy brithday, dearest Joan:
Joan was my college room-mate at Pratt Inst.in Brooklyn as of 1952; and very soon, as I knew her better, became my dearest friend and my ideal.
She was positive, she was fun.She was curious about everything, she was daring I swam in winter water twice, thanks to her leadership. She was a opportunist,in the good sence of the word.
She could do everything!-and really well! Non stop talents and abilities. She could cook, she could sew, type, play the piano, sing, dance, swim, ski, skate, paint, etc.
She was a serious and dedicated student of Art Teaching at Pratt 1951-1953, but she did not finish her studies until much later, I think at S.U.N.Y my name too!.By that time, she was married and the mother of 4 boys-I had 5 girls. In those conditions, she studied at night until graduating. It took 6 yrs.!Only she.
All of her life, she was integral, loyal and comitted. She did not like to write letters, she liked to DO THINGS. Our life-long friendship lasted 58 yrs, thanks to the telephone, occasional visits, and MY writing 98% of the time.
All of the Davendorf family was exceptional. It is thanks to them that I've lived many Norman Rockwell moments and experienced a Norman Rockwell family in action.
Suni to Joaneca with forever love...

Dear Barton,
Sorry about your loss. My wife and I have been married 53 years. I didn't know your wife, but I remember you.
You will have to go back in time to remember me. My name is Bill Wasson, and I lived at 72 LaFayette St. My dad, Val Wasson, was a teacher in Canajoharie and probably had you as a student.

I had the blessing of knowing Joan for a small season in my life. She always had a smile and an encouraging word for me in my time of trouble when i lost my father. I could never express how much that meant to me. I know that she dances on streets of gold. I'm happy for her. My condolences to the whole family. May they have the peace of God in their lifes.

Of course my love & prayers are with you at this difficult time. Joan was a very important person in my life and I learned many valuable "life lessons" from her that I've carried through my life. Although you grieve for her, please try to find solace in the belief that there is something grand beyond this life.
My love to all of you,
