Obituary of Rita M. Colangelo
Rita M. Colangelo, 87, Deal Place, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Monday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam, with her loving family at her side.
She was born March 2, 1920 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of the late Dewitt and Mary Ross Coons. She was a life long resident of Amsterdam and a graduate of St. Mary?s Institute.
She, with her husband John, owned and operated Johnnies Sea Food Restaurant for 42 years, retiring in 1977.
She was active in many local professional associations, Columbian Club, Professional Woman?s Club, St. Joseph?s Church Parish Council, Club 60 and TOPS. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary?s Church.
She was married to John Colangelo on August 15, 1937.
She was predeceased by a daughter Jane, a daughter-in-law Immaculate Mackie Colangelo, a brother Dewitt Coons, two sisters Gladys Nabors and Mildred Romeyn.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son John P. Lynda Colangelo of Amsterdam, NY, grandchildren Annette Tony Noce of Hagaman, NY, Rita Tony
Bottisti of Amsterdam, NY, John P. Angie Colangelo, Jr. of Rome, NY, Christopher Jennifer Colangelo of Old Lyme, CT, Mary Ming Shih of Laurel, MD; eleven great grandchildren, Nicole, Anthony, Adam Noce; Maria, Kyle, Vincent Bottisti; Matthew, Amanda, Mercedes Colangelo; Anne and Sarah Colangelo, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December, 6, 2007 at 10 am at the Betz, Rossi,& Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at the ST. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY. Burial will take place in St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Fort Johnson, NY. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rita?s name to St. Mary?s Church Memorial Fund, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
