Frank Conti

Obituary of Frank A. Conti

Frank A. Conti, Sr. 73, of Chapel Place, passed away Friday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital shortly after arrival. Born in Amsterdam on July 18, 1934, he was the son of the late Leonard and Helen Billington Conti. A 1952 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Frank later entered the US Army. He was stationed in Korea and Germany where he served as a military policeman. Upon his return he joined the General Electric Apprentice Program at Union College. Frank then began a thirty eight year career with the company, retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club. His son, Frank Jr., a golf pro, instilled in his dad the love of the sport and Frank was an avid player at the Muny Golf Course. He proudly scored two holes in one and thoroughly enjoyed playing with his golf buddies, especially his dear friend, the late Dr. Jose Florendo. We think of them as once again playing together, on a bright and sunny course with his son, Frank A. Conti Jr., whom he lost in 1997. In his spare time, Frank reconditioned golf equipment, but was most happy spending time with his family, always ready to help. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where on Sept. 25, 1960 he married his beloved Kathleen M. Scafidi. In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter; Lisamarie San of Amsterdam; grandson; Joseph A. Conti of Tampa Florida; sister; Ann LaGreca of Amsterdam; mother in law; Marie Scafidi of Amsterdam; sister and brother in law; Donna and Ronald Cuomo of Schenectady; nieces; Lori Ann Mumby of Edinburgh, Marissa Zarrillo and Michele Stevens of Schenectady, nephew; Scott A. Mumby of Burbank, Ca. and cousins. Services are Tuesday at 10:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:15 am at St. Michael The Archangel Church, Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable, however those desiring may make a contributions in Frank?s memory to the ?Gift Of Life? program, to honor the dedication of the family?s dear friend, Dr. Mohammad Baghaei Rad, in care of the funeral home office.
