Obituary of E. Arnold Arnie Power
E. Arnold ?Arnie? Power, 87, of Wesleyan Avenue, passed away Sunday evening at the St. Mary?s Hospital, Amsterdam, with his loving family at his side.
He was born January 15, 1920, in Amsterdam, New York and was the son of the late Eli and
Mary Seely Power.
Arnie was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He was a US Army veteran from WWII with the rank of sergeant with Squadron E3502.
Arnie was employed at General Electric as a machinist for 10 yrs. He later was self employed as a general contractor for a number of years, and later was employed at Mohasco industries. He was last employed at Liberty Enterprises until retiring in 1990. He also worked part-time for FMCC until a few years ago.
Arnie was a member of the St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a past member of the church council. He was also an assistant scout master of Boy Scouts of America Troop 25 which was held out of St. Luke?s Church. He was a member of the progressive bowling League.
Arnie loved spending time with his family and working around the house.
On Sept 14, 1946, he married the former Dorothy Dersch.
Besides his wife, survivors include four sons; Thomas Diane Power of Hagaman, Gerry Sharon Power of Brownsburg, Indiana, John Cindy Power of Amsterdam, and Don Susan Power of Johnstown; two daughters; Judy John Levandosky of Amsterdam and Nancy Power of Amsterdam; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arnie was predeceased by a grandson Thomas John Power, Jr.
It is the request of Arnie that there be no calling hours and that funeral services be private and be held at the convenience of the family at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Dr. John Califano officiating. Burial will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke?s Evangelical Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or Community Hospice of Amsterdam 246 Manny?s Corner Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
