Obituary of Peter P. Meskoskey

Peter P. Meskoskey 89, of Romeyn Avenue, passed away Monday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amsterdam on March 29, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph and Antonina Nevadauskas Meskauskas. Educated locally, he lived here his entire life. Peter was employed as a machinist for the General Electric Company in Schenectady for thirty one years before he retired. During World War II, Peter served his country with the US Army and was present during the invasion of Normandy. He was a driver in the European Theater of operations and upon honorable discharge, was awarded several service awards. An avid golfer, he was a fifty year member of the Amsterdam Muni Golf Course, playing into his eighties and achieved the unique status of three holes in one. As a young dad, Peter enjoyed the family camp and spending time there gardening and fishing with Stella and his two young children. In retirement, he loved to go dancing with Stella to the tunes of Big Wally at Schultzie?s Haufbrau. He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club, and St. Michael?s Seniors. A parishioner of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church, it was there that on Oct. 12, 1947 he was united in marriage to the former Stella M. Dabiere. In addition to his beloved wife of sixty years, he leaves his children; Peter G. Deborah Meskoskey of Brunswick, NY; and Penny Ann Philip LaRocque of Averill Park; five grandchildren, Michael Meskoskey, Lawrence Lenartz, Andrew and Danielle LaRocque and Sierra Meskoskey; a sister; Sophie Johnson of Amsterdam, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services Friday 10:30 am at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the funeral Mass at 11:15 am at St. Michael The Archangel Church. Interment in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm. Contributions may be made to St. Michael?s Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
