Obituary of Ernestine M. Pozniak

Ernestine M. Pozniak, 89, of James St, Amsterdam, passed away Saturday evening January 12, 2008 at the E. L Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 7, 1918 a daughter of Antonio and Josephina Lauricella Palamara. She came to Amsterdam at age 2. She was a 1936 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mrs. Pozniak was the co-owner for many years along with her husband of the former Pozniak's Market on James St. in Amsterdam. She retired in 1984. Ernestine enjoyed being at home and cooking for her family. Her family was her life. She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the former Santa Marina Society. Ernestine married Joseph Pozniak on June 21, 1941 he passed away on December 5, 1984. She is survived by four children, Joseph Pozniak Susan of Amsterdam, Frank Pozniak Paula of Cohasset, MA, Michele Valerio Peter of Amsterdam, Theresa Krutz Kenneth of Amsterdam. Two sisters, Jennie Belardi and Josephine Moskal both of Amsterdam. Nine grandchildren, Peter Valerio, Tisha Vidulich, Brett Pozniak, Craig Pozniak, Hailey Pozniak, Paul Pozniak, Claire Pozniak, Grace Pozniak and Joseph Krutz. Four great-grandchildren, Peter "Mikey" and Meadow Valerio, Patrick and Victoria Vidulich. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by one brother, Marty Palamara and two sisters, Lena Marvin and Rose LaBate. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 15, 2008 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St., Amsterdam with Father Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday this evening January 14, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility Activities Fund, State Hwy 30 North, Amsterdam, NY 12010
