Obituary of Helen E. Reed

Helen E. Reed, 88, formerly of Broadalbin, passed away Saturday January 19 at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin where she had been a patient since November of 2007. She was born in Amsterdam September 13, 1919 a daughter of the late William and Frieda Bush Hasenfuss. Helen was a life resident of the area and attended schools in Amsterdam. She married the late Edward J. Reed on April 26, 1943. Helen worked at Navy Depot in Scotia before going to work as a Fork Lift Operator for General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 18 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and recently attended The Village Bible Church in Fonda. Her loving family includes her two daughters; Karan Garrison Wheeler of New Berlin and Gale Houk of Cherry Valley, two brothers; Robert Hasenfuss of Amsterdam and Edward Hasenfuss of Broadalbin, three sisters; Frieda Yurgans of Broadalbin, Rena Houghton of Perth and Carol Barton of Oregon, five grandchildren; Matthew, Leigh and Joshua Wheeler and Amanda and Lucas Houk, and three great-grandchildren; Bryden and Tyler Houk and Kody Newell. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents and her husband, Helen was predeceased by a son-in-law, Greg Houk. Funeral Services will be at 1:00PM on Wednesday, January 23, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Interment will follow in Hagaman Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 1 hour prior to the services from 12:00 to 1:00PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions in Helen's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
