Obituary of William Dale Walker
William "Dale" Walker, age 77, of Vail Mills, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
He was born February 14, 1939 in Gloversville, the son of the late William and Edith Cleveland Walker. He was a graduate of Henderson State Teacher's College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and later served aboard a US Navy tanker in the Korean War.
Dale was a teacher at Connecticut State Prison in Somers, CT for nine years and at Mayfield High School for one year. He was a well-known auctioneer at The Emporium in Vail Mills and operated Auctioneer Vocation School for nine years in Vail Mills. He was owner and operator of King Kone Ice Cream Trucks and was co-owner of the Blue Moon Motel until his illness.
He was a member of the #4 Masonic Lodge of Johnstown and the National and New York State Auctioneer's Associations.
Dale was married on March 25, 1972 to Caroline H. DeRosier Walker, who survives. He is also survived by three children: Kimberly Anne Makela of Harrisville, MI, William "Kip" Walker of Acton, ME and Debora Ambrosino of Gloversville; one sister, Mary Lou St. Thomas of Port St. Lucie, FL; seven grandchildren: Marion Kathleen Parsons of Ashville, NC, John James Glenn Parsons of Harrisville, MI, Hannah Renee Rosenberger of S. Mills, NC, Brittany Walker of Acton, ME, Eric Clark of Acton, ME, Jamie Lee Sena of Mayfield and Casey Bayes of Little Falls; a great-grandson, Jayden Michael Torres of Mayfield and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 26th at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St; Broadalbin, where a funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring at King Cemetery, Northampton.
