Obituary of James J. DiMarco
Mr. James J. DiMarco, 87, of Gloversville, passed away Friday at the Stratton Veterans Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Gloversville on September 9, 1920, James was a lifelong resident of the City of Gloversville. A glove worker throughout his life, he was employed at the Perrella Glove Company at the time of his retirement in 1983.
The youngest son of Frank and Anna Trippoda DiMarco, he was one of twelve children. He was predeceased by his eleven brothers and sisters: Salvatore, Alexander, Anthony, Joseph, Michael, Marianna, Mary, Eunice, Josephine, Rose and Francis.
He forever cherished his loving wife of forty-five years, Anne T. Carangelo, who passed away in 1989. He is survived by his three devoted sons: Frank Lynn, James Jr. and Stephen Stan Putman all of Gloversville, and his two grandchildren: Erik DiMarco Julie of Ridgefield, CT and Casey DiMarco of Ballston Lake, NY.
A 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School, James served in the United States Marine Corps in the 6th Marine Division from 1942 to 1945. He served his country with honor during WWII in the Pacific at Okinawa and Guadalcanal, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
James was an active member of the Gloversville community, notably one of the original founding fathers of the Gloversville Little League. He was a 60 year member of the Catholic War Veterans, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the 55-plus Senior Citizens. James further served on the Fulton County World War II Memorial Committee and was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a prayer service will take place Thursday, February 21 at 10:15 a.m; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring. Donations may be made to the Stratton Veterans Medical Center, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 or to a charity of your choice.
