Obituary of Henry E. Steiger
After a courageous battle, Henry Eugene Steiger, with his family by his side, was called home on January 23, 2017. Henry was born in Hilltown, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1933. He was the son of the late Eugene and Edith Steiger. He married Elizabeth J. Burroughs on November 12, 1955. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Henry served eight years in the Army National Guard in New York and Connecticut. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the operating engineers while living in Connecticut.
Henry and Elizabeth owned and operated a family business, The Sonnenberg Farm, in the Town of Glen for over 50 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth; their four children - Elizabeth (Michael) Korona, Deacon Larry (Carol) Steiger, Susan (Menzo) Case and Jeffrey (Chris) Steiger; fifteen grandchildren - Kristen, Branden, Kevin, Samantha, Emily, Joel, Bradley, Jacqueline, Dezaree, Racquel, Zachary, Kaleb, Matthew, Garrett and Amanda; twelve great grandchildren - Christen, Arianna, Faith, Adalynn, Violet, Scarlet, Hailey, Hayden, Maddie, Audrey, Braylen and Natalynn; siblings, Mary Sheridan, Rene (Pat) Steiger and Amelia Greco (Pinkie), and several special nieces and nephews. Henry is pre-deceased by his daughter Joan Steiger and siblings Edith Day, Robert, and John Steiger.
A Remembrance Service, with full military honors, will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Henry's son Deacon Larry Steiger presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday January 28, 2017 prior to the service beginning at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Town of Glen Fire Department, 134 Auriesville Rd, Fultonville, NY 12072.
