Obituary of Robert C. Sherlock
Robert C. Sherlock, 74, of Brookside Ave, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday morning February 24, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with his family at his side.
Robert was born on March 5th, 1933 and was the only child of Carroll and Elizabeth Chase Sherlock. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1951 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He went on to attend Ryder College in New Jersey before being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1953. He served as a Corporal during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Mr. Sherlock was employed for over 30 years as an Executive with Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. He moved to New Hampshire in 1980 and was the Vice President of Village Press working there until 1984. He was a member of the Amsterdam Lodge F & AM and the Bigelow Weavers in Amsterdam. He loved to travel and take family vacations. He especially enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Sherlock also was an avid New York Giants Fan and a Boston Celtics Fan. Robert also enjoyed spending time with his close friends and always enjoyed making new ones.
Robert attended the United Methodist Church with his wife Barbara M. Gardner Sherlock whom he married on January 31, 1953, she passed away on November 19, 2005.
He is survived by four sons, Richard C. Sherlock and his wife Tracy of Amsterdam, Robert P. Sherlock and his wife Christine of Amsterdam, Brad W. Sherlock and his companion Chrystne Naylor of Albany, and Scott D. Sherlock and his wife Mary Alice of Amsterdam; five grandchildren Sara, Robbie, Meaghan, Kyle and Kade; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 27, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with Rev. Mack McDonald officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday February 26th, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
