Obituary of Nancy C. Turling
Mrs. Nancy C. Turling, 85, of Karolann Place, Fort Plain left this earth to continue her journey with the Almighty. Born on September 19, 1922 in Oneida, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Irene Kline Cheney.
A graduate of Verona High School she later attended Ithaca College and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. She taught in South Glens Falls, Canajoharie and Fort Plain. Following her career as a teacher and coach, she became a homemaker and worked for the family restaurant, the "Ron-D-Voo" in Fort Plain. She along with her husband also owned the Park Motel in the Sacandaga Park. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf and was an avid sports fan. She was a past member of the Verona Presbyterian Church and attended the Reformed Church of Ft. Plain.
On December 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to Walter Turling. Together they raised their two loving daughters, Deborah and Jan. Their union lasted nearly 60 years, until his passing in September of 2007. Sadly, Deborah passed away in 2006.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan Turling of Amsterdam, NY; a sister, Harriett Cooper of Naples, FL; and a niece, Betsey Sullivan of Tampa, FL.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service of Remembrance on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Nancy Ryan presiding. A gathering to celebrate the lives of Walter & Nancy Turling will follow at the Charter House Restaurant in Fort Plain. Interment will take place in the Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
