Obituary of Domenica Sardo Dignazio

Domenica "Mickey" Sardo Dignazio, 88, formerly of Romeyn Ave, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday morning March 5, 2008 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 21, 1919 the daughter of Carmello and Anna Pakenas Sardo. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended Amsterdam Schools. Mrs. Dignazio worked as a seamstress at the original Fownes Glove Co. mill in Amsterdam. She also worked at the former Market Hill Dry Cleaners in Amsterdam. Mickey would always send cards to the homebound of St. Michael's Church and would write personal notes to each person. She always adapted very well to changes in her life. When she had to be placed in the Wilkinson Facility she expressed to her family that she liked it there. Domenica was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Prayer Association. She also enjoyed cats and especially loved her pet cat McBoo. Mrs. Dignazio, as she became older would talk about the special times she had as a child when she would take weekend trips with her mom and dad on her dad's motorcycle. She and her mom would ride in the side care of the motorcycle. She always enjoyed planning those weekend excursions. Domenica is survived by one son, Joseph Dignazio of Amsterdam. One daughter, Mary Ann James Louison of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Domenica considered the Louison and Luffman Families as her own family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 8, 2008 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St. Amsterdam with Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday March 7, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110.
