Obituary of Richard A. Travis

Mr. Richard A. Travis, age 75 of Gloversville, died suddenly on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on April 13, 1932 in Gloversville, the son of the late Harry C. and Florence N. Briggs Travis. He received the Purple Heart Medal for his service in the US Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. He was employed at several leather finishing mills in the Gloversville and Peabody, Massachusetts areas. Richard was a Life-Member of the Fulton County DAV Chapter #122, and was a former member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge. He loved to watch old movies and enjoyed bowling, cooking and reading. Survivors include his wife, Barbara G. Maxon Travis of Gloversville; a daughter, Kathleen Perin Luke of Bangor, Maine; four stepchildren, Jay A. Rose Harue of Perth, Jeffrey A. Rose Rose of North Carolina, Judy Rose of Finland and Joanne Nordling Rich of DeMoines, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Poyfair and Lucille Boyd of Gloversville; a brother, Ronald Travis Shirley of Idaho; four step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers, Irene Viscup, Harry Travis, Charles Travis and Cliff Travis. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, March 12th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Ronald Travis, brother of the deceased, officiating. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
